Thank you very much for the email. In this post, I aim at addressing this issue. To succeed working at home, you will need to cultivate certain habits. Habit and success go hand in hand. These habits will help you to reach your goal whatever it is.

Every individual is a gift of God. All human beings are desirous of achieving in life something or the other.  This happens right from the birth till the death of each individual.

For instance, in an infant at the growing stage say about 5 months, when it starts recognising the face of its mother with a beautiful smile, the mother’s happiness is unexplainable.

For that particular moment it is a great achievement or a success of obtaining the best moment of motherhood in life for all mothers.  Though the baby’s growth stages are quite natural and designed by God, it gives immense happiness to the parents at every stage of baby’s growth to watch them do lot of things.

So for a parent success is measured when their responsibility is to bring up the baby in a good way to produce as a responsible adult and a good citizen. In the similar way, success in each profession by the individuals is measured according to their inputs and based on the outcomes.

This is again achieved by means of them following regular good habits. Hence, Habit and Success have a strong connection. This is true by the sayings analyzed:

“Motivation is what gets you started.

Habit is what keeps you going”- Jim Ryun;

“Daily deeds determine destiny” – Barney Matthews.

So Habit is a repeated action that forms a regular pattern in one’s life to acquire a behavioural skill.  This can be both good and bad.

As we all know, naturally, a person who acquires good habits would stay ahead in life. This is clear and well explained in the saying by Mahatma Gandhiji:

“Your beliefs become your thoughts,

Your thoughts become your words,

Your words become your actions,

Your actions become your habits,

Your habits become your values,

Your values become your destiny”.

Similar thoughts were given by Samuel Smiles:

“Sow a thought and you reap an act;

Sow an act and you reap a habit;

Sow a habit, and you reap a character;

Sow a character, and you reap a destiny”.

Hence this decision by self to follow a good behaviour pattern and to lead a disciplined life will help the person, to the path of success.

Success is again measured differently by varied people as given below:

“Great habits sharpen our thoughts and make us great”

– Debasish Mridha;

“95% of everything you do is the result of habit”

Aristotle;

“Our character is basically a composite of our habits”

– Stephen R. Covey;

“We become what we repeatedly do”

-Stephen Covey.

It is evident that “Practice maketh a man perfect” and

“The best kind of happiness is a habit you’re passionate about”

– L. Adler.

“If you are going to achieve excellence in big things, you develop the    habit in little matters. Excellence is not an exception, it is a prevailing attitude”- Colin Powell.

Only this would drive us to the path of success.  From the above quotes it is evident that habit and success go hand in hand.

Only good, consistent and focused attitude would help build up good character. This indeed could lead to a successful career.

Let us look into the “9 habits to cultivate to succeed working at home”:

Lifestyle in order:

In order to achieve an ambition / concrete goal in life we should possess a Go get attitude…Arise, Awake and Stop not (Swami Vivekananda); hence Character and Conscience plays a great role; waking up early; Practice of meditation/yoga/ exercise; good and healthy eating habits; having self-discipline, self-respect, self-confidence, self-evaluation/assessment; helping tendency; sharing and caring; positive attitude and good manners lead to good habits and always places our lifestyle in an order to pursue any of our goals without any hindrance. In Toto to be humane in nature

Planning and Execution:

Pursue the task with might; Task started must be completed at any cost. So to carry out the activities we should have focused mind with a proper framework of plan and in carrying out the same without a flaw

Perseverance and Consistency:

In order to give the best balancing work with passion and enjoying what you do matters a lot. For this to happen never compare nor get distracted or disturbed by others’ opinion/actions. Hard work, patience and a consistent effort answers our role, “Success never ends”

Overcome Fear Factor:

This is obtained when you develop good administrative/communicative/organisational skills with right attitude. To come to an understanding that there is no short cut for life, “Being smart at job is the need of the hour”

Being Sportive helps:

Try to understand the short term failures and pat yourself that it’s okay we can reset and overcome the shortcomings; again appreciate yourself when you achieve your targets; learn to relax, admire and encourage yourself; Believe in yourself – ‘don’t give up; celebrate your victory

Be a voracious Reader:

Reading and updating knowledge in respective field helps one to win the situation; he/she gains the popularity automatically; visit libraries do some reference work; attend conferences and read many articles/magazines pertaining to your needs and target set

Better be Occupied:

An empty mind is a devil’s workshop and so keeping yourself engaged with the activities you would love to do helps you to achieve success

Lateral Thinking:

Thinking out of the box in many situations often helps a person to resolve the problem quite easily; be calm, think wisely

Spirituality:

However brainy a person can be, nothing happens without His grace; Have faith and do your duty sincerely to reap benefits; Karma will pay our due; stay blessed

As mentioned earlier only good thoughts and great thinking can lead us high.

According to Eleanor Roosevelt,

“Great minds discuss ideas

Average minds discuss events

Small minds discuss people”.

So it is once again made clear that all is in our mind set.  We need to be determined and focussed for anything to be achieved.

Hence, in today’s scenario we come across different sets of people.  They have varied ideas and goals in life. For some, leading a simple life without any expectation is itself a success.  For few others, living in a highly respectable societal status with pomp and glory would be a measure of success.

So “success” is an abstract view in the minds of an individual. It is quite different with each other as said earlier.

In a spiritual atmosphere, the world of ‘Saints’or who is a true devotee to the Lord would consider the path of attaining ‘Moksha’ or the Holy abode of Lord Shriman Narayana “Vaikuntam” as the Ultimatum, a success achieved by observing strict adherence of rules/resolutions mentioned in Sastras and vedic scriptures.

Likewise, irrespective of any field let it be politics/sports/science/IT/ Engineering/Medical etc…all the people have to aim for a classic goal to achieve.

For some the high positions are obtained by good luck too.  But they are short lived. Yet, they can be successful only if they take up the genuine path to retain their position.

Only then it is considered a true success. So what is it which we need to follow to become a successful person?

As per the saying/Proverb “Where there is a WILL there is a way”, it is distinct that we need a burning desire or an urge within us to ensure and obtain the pathway of our own true success.

Let us all wish to have a successful career and a happy life!
